Bottleneck

Hello Again!  Welcome!  Here's tonight's menu:

  1. The dynamic U of C, M enters into its fifth official year of undergraduate enrollment.  I am a Junior now, majoring in Applied Mathematics.
    1. By "applied math," I describe the application of additional math to "environmental engineering".
    2. "Engineering" means discipline.
    3. "Environmental" means that I care about God, people, and creation, but not enough to argue with people that reject environmentalists.
      1. I like these objectors.  They are "cruel friends" that often tell me what not to do with my degree.  Thus, I  can avoid fulfilling certain stereotypes associated with my profession.
      2. "Aww, an environmentalist.  How cute.  I will tell him what he should really be doing."
      3. "Speak softly and carry a big stick" --TR
    4. "Mathematics" means "a big stick".
  2. There was a debate about Disneyland being the happiest place on earth a couple weeks ago, or some related claim about Disneyland.  Within the last two weeks, additional factors have come to my attention:
    1. Pro: Disney now owns Marvel and has inherited a wealth of intellectual property.  As long as they keep things from mixing too much, we should see some cool characters at the 'land.
    2. Con: After having met Mickey or some other "large costumed character" at the park, did she/he ever say anything to you?  Or, was there consuming silence after you hugged/shook hands/ took a memorable picture?  Think about it.
  3.   Many are concerned that the waiting times for medical treatment will be lengthened with a national health care policy.  I have done no research; therefore, I speak as one with "authority".
    1. Many mathematicians, programmers, and medical researchers currently work on algorithms  to optimize diagnosis and treatment (types and times), given some preliminary data.  What's the data, you might ask?  Oh, government studies and... all the forms we have to fill out when we get to the hospital, plus our recorded medical history.  The 'waiting process' is getting better and faster—just make sure to fill out those forms!
    2. Does [more people in vicinity of medical attention] lead to [more public awareness about self-treatment] and to [fewer irreversible, costly medical afflictions]?
  4. Penmanship: So many opportunities to practice, so little time.
For dessert:  anything from the Bag o' Candy.
